AT A GLANCE
Two approaches. One goal.
Both approaches use T-cells to target cancer, but they differ in how treatment is prepared, delivered and monitored.
BISPECIFIC T-CELL ENGAGERS
CAR-T CELL THERAPY
How it works
A bispecific molecule binds a T-cell target, typically CD3, and a tumor-associated target, bringing the cells into close proximity and activating T-cell–mediated killing.
A patient’s T cells are collected and genetically modified to express a chimeric antigen receptor that recognizes a tumor-associated antigen.
Product
Ready-to-use drug product; does not require individualized cell manufacturing.
Patient-specific cell product; current autologous CAR-T therapies require leukapheresis and individualized manufacturing.
Administration
Repeated dosing; most current products begin with a step-up dosing schedule.
Typically a single CAR-T infusion following lymphodepleting chemotherapy.
Selected safety considerations
CRS, neurologic toxicity including ICANS, infections, and cytopenias; timing and monitoring vary by product.
CRS, neurologic toxicity including ICANS, infections, cytopenias, and other product-specific risks.
Care setting
Inpatient and outpatient settings; monitoring requirements vary by product, indication, patient, and institutional protocol.
Specialized treatment programs with coordinated referral and shared-care pathways.
General educational overview. Requirements, monitoring, and risks vary by product and indication. Refer to current prescribing information and institutional protocols.
